Glasgow University Trading & Investment Club

About Us
Who We Are
Founded in 2009, the Glasgow University Trading and Investment Club (GUTIC) is dedicated to building a vibrant community for students passionate about finance. Since our inception, we have helped thousands of students deepen their understanding of financial markets and launch into dynamic careers.
We believe first-hand interaction with financial institutions and the wider finance
community is essential to our members’ development. Our longstanding commitment is to
facilitate these connections, most notably through our annual London Banking Tour, as well as a range of engagement opportunities across the UK, ensuring a diverse and enriching experience for all members.
What We Do
The society prides itself on creating an inclusive environment that fosters both passion and curiosity for financial markets. We welcome students of all levels of ability, whether complete beginners or experienced investors, and encourage participation from individuals with diverse academic and cultural backgrounds. Our aim is to provide a space where anyone with an interest in finance can learn, grow, and connect.

To achieve this, GUTIC has evolved into a multifaceted organisation that offers a wide variety of opportunities. These include practical workshops on trading and investment strategies, networking events with professionals across different areas of finance, and competitions that challenge members to apply their skills in real-world scenarios. Beyond technical development, the society also organises social activities and collaborative projects, ensuring that our members build not only knowledge but also strong friendships and a lasting community.

The culmination of these experiences equips our members with the skills, confidence, and network required to stand out in an increasingly competitive job market. By engaging with GUTIC, students are better prepared to pursue exciting and rewarding careers in finance, whether in investment banking, asset management, consulting, or beyond.
Where We Are Going
GUTIC is rapidly growing, reaching over 300 members in the past year, representing a 126% increase on the previous year. Our demographic continues to champion diversity, with over 45% of our membership female, and a wide representation of all degree disciplines.
As demand at the University of Glasgow for careers in finance grows, so does our society. We are constantly expanding our reach and opportunities to meet this demand. We recognise the geographical barriers students may face, particularly with many career opportunities concentrated in London, and are committed to bridging this gap. The University of Glasgow is home to a large and diverse pool of talent, and we aim to connect this talent with the full spectrum of possibilities within the financial world.
Affiliate Teams
Our affiliate teams give members the chance to specialise in different areas of finance. From equity research and fund advisory to quantitative analysis and trading, each team offers hands-on experience and practical learning. Together, they provide a platform for students to deepen their expertise while contributing to GUTIC’s wider initiatives.
Our team of investment analysts research and pitch stocks to our investment fund, whilst also producing equity research reports.
Analysts are split between the following teams: Industrials, Technology, Healthcare, Consumer and Multi-sector.
This represents an amazing opportunity for our members to gain hands on experience investing in public markets, and develop the skills to do so.

Investment Team
Our team of research analysts produce engaging reports on current world events; ranging from geopolitical to macroeconomic and company specific news.
These reports are compiled into our bi-semester newsletters, available through GUTIC’s various media channels.
This is a great opportunity for our members to not only closely follow world changing affairs, but also learn how to properly communicate and summarise this information into effective reports.

Research Team
Our newly formed Quant team, established this year, aims to provide a community for those wishing to explore the quantitative finance space further.
This includes working closely with our partner WorldQuant, and collaborating with others to develop and learn the skills required for a career within the industry.

This is a perfect opportunity for those wishing to expand on their technical skills, and especially for STEM students who want to apply their classroom knowledge to the world of finance.

Women in GUTIC
At GUTIC, we are committed to fostering inclusivity and ensuring that finance is accessible to all students. Last year, 45% of our membership was female, reflecting our ongoing efforts to create a balanced and supportive community.
To strengthen this further, we'll look forward to hosting more dedicated events that highlight women’s contributions to finance and provide platforms for discussion and mentorship. We also collaborate closely with societies such as Glasgow University Women in Business & Finance Society to promote shared initiatives and encourage greater representation across the industry.
